Empowering Students through Entrepreneurship

Traditional education isn’t enough to prepare students for a rapidly evolving world—that’s why LLA is redefining learning. Through three core pillars—
✅ Experiential Learning & Entrepreneurship
✅ Financial & Digital Literacy
✅ Mind, Body & Soul Development—students gain real-world skills to drive change, build wealth, and shape the future. By integrating academics, entrepreneurship, and social-emotional growth, LLA fosters a deep love for learning and lasting student success.

Transforming Middle School

LLA serves middle school students because these years are critical for identity development, independence, and future readiness. By engaging students ages 11-14 in real-world learning, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy, we empower them to build confidence, think critically, and develop skills that shape their future. This early foundation ensures they are prepared to lead, innovate, and create lasting change in their communities and beyond.

Future-Ready Learning

✅ Entrepreneurial Learning: Students engage in hands-on business ventures, mentorships, and real-world problem-solving, gaining the skills to innovate and lead.
✅ Financial & Digital Literacy: A critical focus on money management, wealth-building, and digital fluency for economic independence and success in a tech-driven world.
✅ Place-Based & Community-Connected Learning: Learning extends beyond the classroom through externships, business partnerships, and immersive experiences.

About the Founder

Alexis Barnes

Alexis Barnes is a dedicated lifelong learner and passionate educator committed to using education as a vehicle for equity and empowerment. As a Spelman College graduate, she was inspired by the motto "A choice to change the world," leading her to Teach for America where she aimed to combat systemic inequities that impact students.

With expertise in Professional and Curriculum Development, Alexis excels at big-picture strategy and transformative learning experiences. Over the past decade, she has served as a teacher, leader, and curriculum writer, later earning a Master’s in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. As Director of Curriculum and Instruction, she led a school-wide academic shift, achieving 100% passing rates on state exams, and further honed her leadership with a Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard.

Now, as the founder of a private microschool, Alexis is pioneering a student-centered, experiential learning model that integrates entrepreneurship, financial and digital literacy, and holistic development. She believes education should dismantle barriers, not reinforce them, ensuring all students—regardless of background—gain the skills and agency to shape their futures.

FAQ's

Were here to help! Below are some answers to common questions.

How are microschools different?

Changemaker Edu Partner Microschools prioritize project-based and self-directed learning, creating an environment where every student is truly known and receives personalized support to thrive.

While all microschools share Changemaker's Mind Body Soul curriculum, each one has a unique focus—ranging from STEAM, martial arts, and performing arts to global citizenship, High School/Adult GED programs, and more! This allows families to find the perfect fit for their child's interests and learning style.

Are Changemaker Microschools right for my family?

Do you feel frustrated by the limitations of traditional schools? Are you looking for a learning environment that recognizes the genius in every child and nurtures their individual spark? Do you value love, autonomy, community, creativity, and equity in education?

At Changemaker Edu Microschools, we believe that true learning happens when students develop mind, body, and soul. Every child deserves a school that celebrates their unique strengths, passions, and potential—one that empowers them to grow with confidence, resilience, and purpose.

How do Changemaker Microschools look out for the safety and well-being of students?

At Changemaker Microschools, student well-being comes first. Through our Mind Body Soul program, we empower students and educators to trust their inner wisdom, build emotional resilience, and develop healthy mental and physical habits.

Beyond personal growth, we also prioritize physical safety and support with low student-to-staff ratios, clear safety protocols, and experienced educators who create a secure, nurturing learning environment.

How much are families required to be involved?

There are no required commitments—family involvement is entirely based on your interest and availability. Changemaker Microschools partner with each family individually, allowing you to engage in ways that feel right for you.

Some families prefer to be highly involved, while others take a more hands-off approach. Opportunities range from casual check-ins with teachers to volunteering in the classroom or helping with field trips. Whatever your level of involvement, we welcome and appreciate your support in a way that fits your lifestyle.
